Common Human Foods You Didn’t Know Dogs Can’t Eat
Everyone has had their beloved pooch come up to the dinner table at some point with those puppy eyes looking for handouts. Do you tend to cave in? Because who can resist that cute face? No one with a heart! Make sure you are feeding your dog foods that their bodies can digest. Take a look at just a few foods you may not know are bad for your dog.
Xylitol
Xylitol is a sweetener found in gum, candy, toothpaste, baked foods, etc. If eaten, it can cause your dog’s liver to fail and blood sugar to drop. They also may have seizures and liver failure. Always check food labels before feeding your pet something.
Chocolate
We’re assuming everyone has heard that chocolate is bad for dogs, but just in case, we’re putting it on the list. Many ingredients in chocolate can cause your dog to have diarrhea, vomit and will cause damage to their heart and nervous system.
Avocado
It might be the food we love, but it can cause your dog to vomit and have diarrhea.
Alcohol
Alcohol can cause breathing problems, coordination problems, vomiting, etc. It can also cause death if it is ingested in excess. The smaller your dog, the worse its symptoms will be.
Caffeine
Do not let your dog near coffee, the beans or grounds, soda or tea. It may give us energy, but it can kill your pet.
Grapes
There is a toxin in grapes that can cause kidney failure and severe liver damage. They need to be kept very far away from your pet.
Macadamia Nuts
Once again, they contain a toxin that can damage your dog’s nervous, muscle and digestive systems.
This list is not comprehensive and could go on forever, so please do your research thoroughly before feeding any human food to your dog.
